Webinar: Getting Ready for Next-Generation Commerce

Multiple dates/times

Next-generation commerce is more than just the purchase transaction. It delivers a seamless experience across channels, even IoT devices. Most important, it focuses on continuing the customer conversation throughout the end-to-end experience. In this session, Jill Finger Gibson, DCG Principal Analyst, and Nate Barad, Sitecore Senior Director Product Marketing, discuss people, processes, and technologies for next-generation commerce.

Jill and Nate use the manufacturing sector as a specific example. More and more, manufacturers are going directly to end-buyers, be they consumers or businesses, rather than just being wholesalers to retail outlets. How are companies doing this, and what are the key challenges? Other topics include:

  • What is “next-generation” commerce? What makes it different from earlier generations?
  • What are the drivers for B2B versus B2C? Or are they the same?
  • For companies without in-house expertise, what’s required to move to next-generation commerce? What should they look for in a partner?

For additional analysis, download Jill’s popular report, A Brand Manufacturer’s Guide to Direct-to-Consumer e-Commerce. She introduces the paper in this post. See also her advice to digital agencies on adding transaction expertise to their creative services. Does Amazon Go + GDPR = Amazon No-Go?

Yesterday, my colleague and commerce guru Jill Finger Gibson did a great job explaining Amazon Go, the retail behemoth’s experiment with what might be called “1-Step” grocery shopping: Walk into the store, grab what you want, and walk out. Amazon’s surveillance technologies (cameras, microphones, device identifiers, facial recognition, etc.) will (supposedly) take care of accurately… read more >

Latest Stats Show Mixed Picture For Retail E-Commerce in U.S.

The latest quarterly statistics on the retail sector, including retail e-commerce, were released from the U.S. Department of Commerce earlier this week. Once you are able to digest the dense government language and poorly-formatted charts and tables, you can see that the overall picture is positive, with growth pointing in all the right directions. Yet the data also… read more >

Six Reasons Why Brands Should Consider Direct-to-Consumer E-Commerce

Once upon a time, the lines between manufacturers and retailers were clear. Manufacturers made widgets, retailers bought large amounts of said widgets, and consumers bought widgets at stores. The advent of online shopping in the 1990s gave rise to a host of new pure-play online retailers, but the fundamentally linear model of the brick-and-mortar world –… read more >
